Mabenga’ son in law sentenced to death

Micheal Mabenga’s son in law, David Chitika and his co-accused, Lawrence Kaunda, have been sentenced to death by hanging.
The two have been found guilty in a matter in which they were jointly charged for murdering Mabenga’s daughter Gladys who was also the wife to David Chitika.
Fact before the high court were that 37-year-old Chitika, a Barclays Bank support specialist of 20, Petauke Road in Lusaka’s Chilenje South and 21 year old Kaunda, a student, on dates unknown but between September 10 and 11, 2010 jointly and whilst acting together murdered Gladys Maketo Mabenga-Chitika.
After the judgment Mr. Mabenga described the sentence as a Christmas gift for his family.
He, however, also expressed sadness that two more lives would be lost.

Its really unfortunate that things have turned out this way, however, considering that a life was lost in an unclear circumstances, it is only a matter of natural justice that ‘justice should take place’ by soul for soul. Sentencing Chitika to death by hanging until pronounced dead is the only true justice that can hinder the would-be offenders. However, i wonder why the judge handling the case in which Monica Phiri, lover to Jonathan Mwala, was murdered in April 2007 is delaying to sentence Beatrice Mwala, Monica’s killer to death by hanging as the cases are the same with the David Chitika’s one.

Whether sombody kiled someone/not, sentencing sombody to be hangd is sin. Tho its hard to imagine hw the Mabenga family ar feeling afta losing their daughter by kiling, being a christian & in a christian nation, such laws must not be in existence. Laws lyk death penalty by hanging ar unacceptable in a christian Nation like Zambia. Whn Christ was nailed on tht old ragged cross He prayed and said, father forgive them for they do nt knw wht they’re doing, wht a prayer! In heaven Abraham wil give a testimony of how hard it was whn the Lord askd him to giv his promised son a sacrifice, th widow wil also give a testimony of how sh gave the only mony sh had in ha entire lyf to th work of the lord, wht testimony ladies & gentlemen are we going to give whn we get to heaven. In conclusion I am sayng “Forgiveness is human but vengeance is Divine”, An eye for an eye is sin. pagan laws in a christian nation=agony….

it really makes sad reading to hear abt the sentencing of my brother, Ba Chansa, thats what i call him, this is nt the end of the world, if you really did it Ask for FORGIVENESS from our heavenly father and things will definately come round and the bible says If only we confess our sins, he is just and will forgive us. May God keep you strong as he has always done from the time you were taken to jail, until his appointed time when you will be out.. Am confident you will! Vengence is not ours!and can not be regarded as a christmas gift….

i know dear what you wrote is true and correct but in the lives of the many people who serve prison sentences are not killers. This case has twists and turns but in all is un fortunate that today we lost 3 peolple, one dead, two lives shuttered.

But what is muder at law and where do these facts as ready in the papers concerniong the issue fit in? Mudder is an lawfully pre meditated killing of another human.

I still believe deep down my heart by the history of the two man and wife of violence, the husband never pre determined to go and commit this act and this could not have been muder but posibbly man slaughter. They could have fought on the material day and in the course of the fight, unfortunately the wife died. What went extremely wrong is the advise that the young man received from his foolish friends and relatives that made the death of the lady to be so grave and chilling. The facts and proof that could have helped him from the crime sean he wipped out and ended up in wrong hands.

He under the advice from the relatives never informed the relatives of his wife that she has died, tied a rope around the neck and hang her by the window bars standing taller than the window it self so foolishly it may seam as if its sucide when blood stains were all over the house. They even had the guts to take her to the motuary in the absence of the relatives, the judge had no choice but to reach the guilt of muder verdict.

its just that justices only meets the unknown but if any thing even Mabenga himself deserves a death sentance for crime ande life lose he coursed by stealing drugs at sichili mission hospital. To me its pay back time in some way.and also other issues that he was let go of.

something is so not right about this story. I don’t think much investigation into the matter seems to have been done. We really need serious investigators in Zambia. Even if he killed her, I suspect ,an slaughter as in opposed to murder. The story suggests long standing marital problems which can exasperate violence between two lovers. Counselors should have long been involved. Please people, learn not to have a trial and error marriage. It costs. Don’t marry names, they cost a lot. Marry foe love. It is sad that they courts don’t seem objective but subjective on the matter. I rest my case.

    • The Don   December 26, 2012 at 08:38

Thats why it read: You are free to appeal to the Supreme Court… thats where manslaughter can be considered, all the same what happended between the two was terrible!!!!

@ Zokole please be informed that there is no Bemba tribe based in Luapula. What did your social studies teacher teach you in grades 5 and 6 about zambian tribes, and where exactly are they found? The Elizabeth Chitikas(sister to David chitika-the Murderer) come from kawambwa district ,and in that area you find the chishinga tribe .Other tribes found in luapula Province are-Aushi,Lundas of Kazembe,Bwiles,Tabwas and Bena Ng’umbo. These tribes just like lambas, lalas and Bisas speak languages( something similar) to Bemba, but they are not Bembas.Get that into your mind and explain to your children as well.
The true Bembas are based in Northern/Muchinga provices in particular around-Kasama,Mungwi and Chinsali districts.Period.The rest such as Lungus,Bisas Mambwes,Lambias,Nyikas and Namwangas are not Bembas at all. From this data you can now see that the true traditional/tribal cousins to us Ngonis are the Bembas Only-from Chinsali,Kasama and Mungwi.Period.The rest who pretend to be our cousins are fake and do not know their history.I rest my case.

sad story, i may believe in the postmotem or the judicially for both institutions in Zambia are stinking. God is the last judge and he knows the truth, Please let both families reconcel for they have both lost lives, then they have left us a boy, Mabenga should have manners, and mind his languege he is a parent and still have female children.

  13. savimbi   December 25, 2012 at 21:28

well its sad that tempers can be such hot to an extent of killing, however two wrongs can not be rite.God only knows why our Dear sister was killed in a such a manner. As of Mr.Chitika,Seek for forgiveness from both families yours & the Mabengas then surely from GOD.NO sin can not be forgiven by God,including murder. Be prayerful even at the point of meeting the hung man. GOD is still saying something to you.

So sad! Restraint please! when you are annoyed, it is not the best time to solve a problem or to met out punishment. Always wait until you are colled down. It this easier to say than practice?

I have know David for a long time as a friend and also a classmate. Sometimes when marriaged, relationships are not working. It is better to let go and move on.

I am so sad about the out come and praying things might just change.

    • The Don   December 26, 2012 at 08:41

Exactly!!! If things are not working out… move one with your life than cling to an abusive partner (be it wife of hubby). You only have one life….

Mr Mabenga while I feel for you and your family for the brutal murder of your daughter I fail to reconcile your statement, ”The death sentence is a christmas gift for your family and at the same time express sadness that 2 more lives would be lost”

  20. Nakansangwe   December 25, 2012 at 12:26

That is sad to David Chansa Chitika. I urge the two families to take care of the innocent son.I know it pains to lose your beloved one but the words Mabenga have used are two strong. Remeber you have a grand son and i do not know how you will love the boy.

  21. Nakansangwe   December 25, 2012 at 12:21

I knew David as a yound boy in 1991 In Mufulira at Nankonde Flats oposit the top shops when he was staying with his late elder brother Loyed. Its sad what happened to the wife and what has happened to him. who will take care of the innocent boy? Its not time to insult each other because what happened to David can happen to any one. For the sake of the son i ask God to help the two families reconcile.

    • Mr X   December 25, 2012 at 15:44

After reading the former home of the chap and seeing the picture in the post, I think I know him. Mufulira has produced a good number of successful and responsible citizens, but what this brother did is unacceptable. Reading past stories, he appeared to have been under extreme provocation for a while, but this is not an excuse. May the soul of the deceased rest in peace. And for you my brother, seek God’s forgiveness
