NAREP pinpoints PF failures and lies as requested by George Chellah

Mr. George Chellah has issued a response to the press statement issued by the NAREP President, Elias Chipimo Jnr. on Thursday 10 January 2013. Mr. Chellah’s statement continues the trend of nearly all his previous statements. It appears to have been written in angry haste.

He has asked President Chipimo to “pinpoint where the PF Government has failed, and provide alternative grounded options rather than spend time in a day-dreaming or theoretical session about what he wishes to happen”.

Here is what we asked for in our press statement:

    • Opportunity for our youth to flourish in decent work and enterprise
    • Our women to be protected from violence and discrimination
    • Government to work with traditional leaders to empower rural communities
    • Government to apply public order laws in a non-discriminatory manner
    • Running water in homes
    • Homes connected to a stable supply of electricity
    • Our ministers not to fly abroad for treatment when they have neglected the health institutions at home
    • The PF to concentrate more on promoting development than seeking political domination

Mr. Chellah’s statement sheds an enormous amount of light on why we are not seeing development for our people under the PF. He believes that these requests are “day-dreaming and theoretical”!

Had Mr. Chellah read the NAREP press statement more carefully, he would have noted that we have not said the PF has failed. We in fact point out that it is not our desire to see the PF fail because if they do, it is the people who will suffer. Our statement accuses the PF of placing priority on triggering by-elections and harassing its political opponents at the expense of prioritising development. We stand by this statement.

While we believe that it is important to prosecute those that have committed crimes involving abuse of office, we are in no doubt that the attempted prosecutions against the certain members of the Opposition has not been consistent with a genuine fight against corruption.

We have evidence that the type of things Dr. Nevers Mumba is being accused of having done are flourishing under the PF administration and it is for this reason that we see the recent arrest of Dr. Mumba as being politically motivated. We shall make this information available to the public at the appropriate time.

We pointed out in our statement that the country is in a crisis due to: high mealie-meal prices, continued and preventable daily deaths at clinics and health institutions around the country, continued load-shedding, lack of access to clean water and sanitation, massive formal unemployment, laying off of workers because of the hasty introduction of laws and regulations without adequate consultation, defilement and sexual exploitation of our young women.

However, since Mr. Chellah has asked us to identify the PF failures (and he would do well to remember the saying: be careful what you wish for), we present a summary of some (not all) of the promises that were made by the PF:

  • Demolition of shanty towns and the building of better planned houses in 90 days
  • When PF comes into power there will be no load-shedding
  • There will be no abuse of the public media
  • PF will do away with the Public Order Act (because it’s a colonial law)
  • PF will create employment for the youths
  • There will be better sanitation for everyone (46 years of independence Zambians cannot be using pit latrines)
  • Cholera will be a thing of the past
  • PF will reduce the size of Cabinet
  • PF will increase bags of fertilizer for our farmers
  • PF will deliver a people-driven constitution within 90 days
  • Enactment of the Freedom of Information Bill
  • Imposition of windfall tax on mining companies

We think that if Mr. Chellah sincerely wishes to talk about lies and deceit, we can start with the list above and engage in a sensible dialogue about how we can constructively move forward on each of these matters.

We intend over the next ten weeks, to highlight each of these promises and other areas of poor governance (one a week) and to provide details of the PF’s failures in the specific sectors related to these promises and to other areas of political, economic and social development.

We shall commence with the mealie-meal crisis. We will also set out NAREP’s proposals on the way forward once we have demonstrated the failures.

To be fair and balanced, we will also point out the things PF is doing well and where it has succeeded. Perhaps after more public discussion on these issues it may become a little clearer as to which of us is living in a parallel universe.

For a long time, HH was painted as selfish, did not listen to the voice of the people, only interested in going to state house. At that time, the voice of the people was strident on joining forces to defeat RB, who was getting to be a monster with his impunity. You remember the ‘FTJ was a damn good president’ and ‘Dora is smarter than all those accusing her’ remarks? Well HH answered the voice of the people. The rest is history.

Ba Chipimo you are now considered as double tobela. It was wrong in the first place to accept the trip to Brazil. You have already been compromised. I know you enjoyed some allowances but it was wrong for you to do so. Look at how PF is busy buying MMD MPs? Nawakwi is already bought and she too is enjoying double tobela. Otherwise Zambian people had faith in you to take over in 2016 but you were mislead in the process. Its not too late you can do damage control. Next time please refuse even thought you come from same village with Sata. Your statement above is sport on and continue to provide constructive checks and balances. Its good for our democracy.

    • Selita   January 13, 2013 at 16:13

This is the kind of politics that arrests our development. Don’t think like a kaponya. To build a nation, you don’t build fences. Does the Berlin wall ring bells?

You in a backward fellow who can not realise the truth. Have you not made a mistake in your life then apologised and continued from there to where you are? Do not be hypocrit. Be sincere, NAREP is doing fine on this one. NAREP, You have my support.

Chellah is just some a diploma holder without proper analytical skills. My advice to George is that “Do not throw stones at others when you live in a glass house”. It is simple as all that and I know this adage will hurt you.

WHERE DO SOME PEOPLE FIND TIME TO ARGUE WITH CHELLAR OVER MACROECONOMIC AND NATIONAL POLICY ISSUES? The guy cant even spell these concepts. Just leave him in peace but he should first create peace for himself by taming his vibrant and foul mouth which appears to be autonomous from his brains, assuming he has any

  9. Howling Wofl   January 13, 2013 at 11:37

Indeed Ellias Chipimo and Edith Nawakwi can’t be trusted anymore, they do double TOBELA. Ba musela kwakaba. Infact they are spies for PF when they mingle with the opposition. Opposition be ware. Remember the Brazil, Riogate scandal? What were they talking about all the way. I believe in George’s story that the two are their agents. Don’t be fooled by these “Holywood” style gimmicks.

    • Kabutu   January 14, 2013 at 08:22

Elias can be trusted. The fact that he went to Brazil on Sata’s invitation but can still criticise him shows how uncompromised he is. In any case, anyone is entitled to travel abroad at GRZ expense. It is not the President’s money. That money belongs to you and me – the taxpayers. We should never feel ashamed of travelling at government expense. In fact, it’s the citizens expense. It’s our money.

  14. kapuli wa ng'ongo   January 13, 2013 at 08:50

Oh come on. I think this is simplistic and devoid of many things have humans promised and not delivered? Party manifestos are intentions only and are to be used as tools to check govt.

I have seen the NAREP and the UPND manifestos, they are both pregnant with such….

    Reminds me of a child’s patter…”but daddy you said….”

    • dudelove   January 13, 2013 at 09:33

Dude, there is a huuuggee difference between not keeping some promises and not keeping all promises. your party falls in the latter and to make matters worse, they have even worsened the standard of living of the very people they promised!

Just because they traveled o Brazil with Sata? Talk about simplisticity!

  17. doli   January 13, 2013 at 07:34

Well articulated but unfortunately narep is a proxy party for pf. Once pf is done and voted out or sata is rebased if narep is voted in, george chela will be minister of information or ambassador to US. All george and elias are doing is expose the dying PF as they improve the image og Narep. That is the future home of PF plunderers should it come tto power. Nawakwi and Elias have deliberately not Joined the PF because they know it is a dying hose kicking last kicks. But they a an assignment to provide future shelter for PF plunderers.

    • Boogie   January 13, 2013 at 08:44

This is the problem with people like you who think that to be in opposition, then one has to be enemies with the government. Elias Chipimo junior has brought a new meaning to an opposition party in this country. Praise where you feel that the government has done something commendable and criticise it where it is going wrong.

      • KING ATASe!   January 13, 2013 at 11:29

Narep is just another Bemba party!

        • Selita   January 13, 2013 at 16:27

What nonsense? Give us a Tumbuka party to support then since Agenda for Zambia is not making waves. Or better still create one that does not bear the characteristics you loathe. You are the same nitwits who call HH head of a tribal party popular in one region only. You always see the cup half-empty. What do you stand to gain when you slap people and orgs with labels?

    Ndeleloleshafye.Otherwise PF has done a lot, mealie meal has bn reduced,loadshedng is reduced,jobs being created,hospitals being improved wth 650 clinics 2b built,universities increasing,roads being done,salaries increased,constitution underway,chiefs in..

    • hope for better   January 13, 2013 at 09:44

Give us examples of jobs created by PF. 650 clinics are still empty promises until they are fulfilled. strikes and demonstrations are all over the nation concerning salary increments, which increments are you talking about? Universities without industries for applying the skills acquired, what for? Jack think twice my brother. Don’t be PF oriented.

  20. Ndutu   January 13, 2013 at 06:24

Spot on NAREP,I wont critise you for the trip to seems you are wiser and you knew why you had to go.i think pf is worse than kaponyas coz you can reason with a kaponya for as long aas you reason with him.PF leadership luck wisdom which is the major factor of a good leader.just like what one man said an experienced and unwise person becomes the most dangerous or hazardious person to work with.Ba Chella be reminded that being in power wont scare us to fire have an example unless you are telling that you are too dull to fail an example.oohhh infact you have already failed wit yr entire pf leadership.

  21. ZED GENIUS   January 13, 2013 at 04:15

  24. Straight Talk Zambia   January 13, 2013 at 00:09

Spot-on NAREP!This will not only shame State House, and particularly the empty tin that makes noise in the name of being the Spokesperson of the President, but also the Times of PF, who in their opinion in their Saturday edition mounted an unwarranted scathing attack on Elias. It is so shameful how a public newspaper can take such sides. I would advise them to shut their mouths for it is better to remain silent than to clearly show that you will report to please your masters just to keep your jobs. PF and their supporters and sympathisers must learn to accept criticism. It is disheartening to see Sakeni and George Chellah attack the person of everyone who provides an objective assessment of PF performance, which to say the least falls far below the expectations Sata created just to gain votes.

  25. Melanin   January 12, 2013 at 23:27

Chola boy is talking rubbish. Where was he when Sata was campaigning, making those promises? He was ushered into power based on those pledges. Now that he is not delivering, is it wrong for Elias to criticise?

Next time Sata’s mouth piece goes out on a stinking session of day-dreaming theoretical sessions about what he and his boss wish to be judged by the opposion and electorate, he should first revisit this list given by NAREP and on which I would add the controvetial restoration of BA64. Otherwise his will always remain hollow hawlings of a rabid mubwa wa chiwewe living in a parallel universe.

  28. OxFord Trained   January 12, 2013 at 22:36

Iwe ka George Chellah, you are even worse that Dickson Jere. Chipimo is an Oxford Trained Economist who comes from a distinguished family. Nomba iwe ka Chellah, you lack civility and the only CV you have is writing trash and twisting stories for the disgraced Pest Newspapers in Bwinjifumu toilet. No wonder UPND also lynched you when you went to cover a UPND function. So ka chikala, we will strip you naked with Fred Mmembe ku Lusaka Stadium by November this year year, since TB Joshua has prophesised that your boss will be moving to his parking space opposite Cabinet Office in August this year

It is true in trained at Oxford but as a lawyer and not economist. But that is not to say that he cannot think like an economist. I think you were trying to say something good but spoilt it with insults and what threats made out of emotion.

  32. folopo   January 12, 2013 at 22:18

I was ashamed at the way the Post of yesterday Friday 11th reconstructed Mr Chipimo’s statement to portray a picture of total support for the ruling party. If ZWD did not publish the whole NAREP statement verbatim, you could easily crucify Mr Chipimo. We know that the Post is now faecal matter, but surely they should be ashamed to pretend to be journalists.
