1000 Mufuchani families to be evicted to pave way for bridge construction

About 1000 families in Kitwe’s Mufuchani area are going to face eviction from the land they are currently occupying to  pave way for the construction of a bridge at Kafue river inorder to connect Kitwe and Mufuchani.
But the Kitwe city council has not yet secured a new area where the affected people are supposed to be taken.
“As at now we have not yet found the area where to take this people, because what it is that these people have to be compensated by government by government before they could be evicted,” said  acting Kitwe City council public relations manager Dorothy Sampa.
Mrs Sampa said the Mufuchani bridge has been along standing issue adding that the council is working around the clock to find an area where these people could be taken.
And one, of the affected residents Jean Muma said it is going to be unfair for the council to evict them from the land that they have been occupying for a long time without first paying them.
