A 16 year old girl of Chief Kabulwebulwe in Mumbwa district has given birth to triplets.
Mumbwa District Commissioner Sunday Shamabanse confirmed the development to ZANIS in Mumbwa.
Mr Shamabanse visited the teenage mother at Mumbwa district hospital and was informed by the authorities that 16 year old Olivia is married to a 22 year old man, Stanford Chuma of the same village.
According to hospital details, Olivia already has a two-year old baby born in 2010 when she was 14 years old. It means she now has 4 children.
The triplets were born last week on Thursday via a caesarian operation after the girl failed to delivered normally at Kalenda Rural Health Centre.
Mumbwa District hospital Maternity ward Sister In- charge Tusankiwe Chanda told the District Commissioner that medical personnel conducted a successful operation on Olivia whose first baby weighed 1.8kg, the second 1.7kg and the last to be born weighed 2.050kg.
She added that this was the first set of triplets to be born at the new Mumbwa District Hospital which was officially opened in March 2011.
And Mr. Shamabanse has donated K500, 000 to assist the family of the triplets.
