Its not govt responsibility to pay Shipolopolo allowances-Kambwili

Sports Minister Chishimba Kambwili said Wedsday that it was not governments’ responsibility to pay allowances for junior national teams.
The Zambia women national football team were the first ones to be eliminated from the African Championships held in Namibia and have not been paid any allowances for training before the games, during the tournament in Namibia and were only paid K100 each upon arrival in Lusaka for their transport back to their homes.
The girls have rejected the money and have since refused to leave the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) technical centre in Lusaka.
But Sports Minister Chishimba Kambwili said government only pays for the senior team and all junior national teams should be paid by the Football Association of Zambia.
Some of the players have since threatened to boycott playing for Zambia but Kambwili said playing for the national team was a personal conviction though he was quick to appeal to the players not to be emotional over the allowances. The Zambians lost 2-0 to hosts Namibia, drew 1-1 with Ivory Coast and were humiliated 6-0 by the Super Falcons of Nigeria.
Just a few weeks ago Kambwili caused a stir when he said it was not governments’ responsibility to pay student bursaries.
