Zambia Railways managing director Muyenga Atanga has been asked to resign to serve him from the embarrassment of being fired. Atanga is husband to the former PF secretary general Bridget who was also fired by Lungu soon after assuming the party presidency.

According to information obtained by the Watchdog, Atanga had a meeting with communications minister Yamfwa Mukanga and PF secretary general Davis Chama at which the two leaders persuaded him to resign because President Edgar Lungu wanted to appoint someone in that position.

“The boss was called to Lusaka by Mukanga and Chama and him though they were calling him for good news but broke the ice that he had to resign and has since given 90 days notice. When he tried to inquire as to why he had to resign in spite of being assured when he diverted company money to President Lungu’s campaign, the two leaders told him that they were implementing the President’s directive’, said the source.

During the January Presidential election, Mukanga diverted over K250,000 company funds to PF. When then Finance director Elijah Nyirenda resisted the theft directive, he was found mysteriously dead at his flat. Atanga implemented it with other directors, but now he has been done a donchi kubeba by Lungu.
