President Edgar Lungu and his MMD-PF alliance are interfering with the Supreme Court in the election petition where PF’s losing Lubansenshi constituency candidate Lazarous Chota is challenging Independent candidate Patrick Mucheleka.
Chota petitioned the 2011 election but Ndola High Court dismissed his petition after finding that voters were not prevented from voting for their preferred candidate and that nothing affected the election in any negative way.
The court found that in spite of being an Independent candidate, Mucheleka was favoured and carried out his campaigns peacefully and with support of stakeholders but Chota appealed to the Supreme court whose ruling was supposed to be made on Wednesday but has been reserved.
Watchdog sources within State House have disclosed that President Lungu and ex President Rupiah Banda want to interfere with the judgment because of Mucheleka’s apparent opposition to the MMD–PF and alleged support of UPND.
“They don’t mind causing a by election, what is important to them is to get rid of Honourable Mucheleka because of his support of UPND in last elections,” said the source.
