Abducted journalist spends second night in prison

Wilson Pondamali, a Kabwe based journalist who was abducted by the Zambia Police spent a second night in a police detention cell tonight.

And the police are planning to charge Pondamali with sedition despite finding no seditious material when they raided his home in Kabwe very early on Wednesday, July 17, 2013.

Pondamali, a former reporter for the Post newspaper was abducted by police around 18 hours local time in Kabwe on Tuesday July 16, 2013. He was abducted by a group of police officers in plain clothes just when he reached the bus stop in Kabwe. He was returning from Lusaka.

The police did not inform his family that they were holding him in detention but raided the family house in the morning scaring little children in the process.

The police are trying to link Pondamali to the Zambian Watchdog. He is the third journalist to be detained in the past seven days.
