ACC arrests Livingstone Immigration official for failing to account for his wealth

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested an Immigration Assistant in Livingstone for being in possession of unexplained property worth, over 100 million Kwacha.

ACC Corporate Affairs Officer Wezzy Chomba said Mkucwa Uteka 29, of  Dambwa North in Livingstone, has been charged with one acount of owning a house valued at over 101.5 million kwacha, property which is reasonably suspected to have been unlawfully obtained, contrary to section 319 of the Penal Code Cap 87 of the laws of Zambia.

Mr. Chomba told ZANIS that Uteka, who is a public officer, failed to account on how he came to win the house in question.

He said Uteka will appear in the Livingstone Magistrates Court for plea on January 27 this year.

He has since been released on bond in his own recognizance with two working sureties.

And ACC Director General Rosewin Wandi reiterated her warning that public officers who acquire property which they cannot account for will face the wrath of the law.

Ms. Wandi noted that any genuinely acquired property can easily be traced and accounted for without difficulty.
