ACC demands suspension of cops arrested for bribes

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Director-general Godfrey Kayukwa has demanded that the two senior Zambia police investigators who have been arrested for soliciting bribes from a person they were investigating be suspended.

Chief Inspector Mabvuto Nguni and Chief Inspector Evarisato Chisanza both investigators in the Zambia police service were arrested by the ACC two weeks ago for receiving K32 million in bribes from a suspect.
Despite their being formally charged and taken to court, the two have remained in active service prompting the ACC to intervene.

Sources have disclosed that the ACC boss late last week made a written demand to the Zambia police command to suspend the suspects..

Sources say the two have not yet been suspended as there is fierce resistance from the police command.

And the Zambian of Asian origin who reported the same police officers to the Anti corruption Commission has finally been given police bond..

Ahmed Bharuch who took Inspectors Mabvuto Nguni and Evarisato Chisanza to the ACC for soliciting and receiving K32 million from him was arrested on Friday April 8, 2011.

He was charged with offences relating to illegal dealings in motor vehicles. He was initially denied police bond and accused of threatening a police officer., .
