Opposition Alliance for Democracy and Development says it will back the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) candidate Villie Lombanya in the July 25 Solwezi East by-election.
ADD member Charles Kaputula who withdrew from the race at the last minute said Lombanya was the best candidate as he was highly experienced and mature.
“In this election we are going to support Mr Lombanya because he is the best candidate with a lot of experience from his time as Permanent Secretary. For we will back the UPND and believe this will strengthen the opposition cause,” Kaputula said.
“I am looking at 2016 but for now Lombanya is the best candidate.”
The Solwezi East seat fell vacant after incumbent Richard Taima’s sear was nullified for corruption.
Taima defected to the PF after it became apparent that the Supreme Court will nullify his seat but the ruling party opted not to adopt him.
Lombanya who once served as North Western Province Permanent Secretary will be up against the PF’s Peter Ilunga.
