AIDS has killed too many teachers, says official

Kitwe District Education Board Secretary (DEBS) Sackis Mwansa has urged teachers to be disciplined and love their families to survive the HIV/AIDS that has claimed a lot of teachers so far.

Mr Mwansa said this in Kitwe today at a one day HIV/AIDS Faithfulness Teachers workshop organized by Diakonia A department under the Reformed Church in Zambia (RCZ) at Kitwe Boys High School.

He said the teaching fraternity has greatly been affected by the loss of its workers due to the HIV/AIDS.

Mr Mwansa said it was for this reason that couples should strengthen their family relationships and be disciplined in the age of the pandemic.

He said that government policy was to expose ministry of education workers to HIV/AIDS information.

And RCZ National Coordinator Reverend William Zulu said he was happy that government and other institutions have worked together in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Reverend Zulu said the church has been working with the ministry of education in the program and appealed to the teachers to share the information with others.
