Airtel feels pressure, gives stupid response to revelations of blocking ZWD

AIRTEL RESPONDS TO MAIKO ZULU’S ALLEGATIONS

Airtel makes reference to the recent statement by Mr. Maiko Zulu on the Zambian Watchdog and dated 3rd July 2013.

Airtel wishes to advise its customers and the public at large that every Airtel customer has the opportunity and ability to access websites of their choice and as regards accessing the Zambian Watchdog, customers can access the website by using https instead of http.

Airtel also wishes to advise that occasionally it has been noted that certain handsets do experience difficulties in accessing data and this can be ascertained at any one of our Airtel shops throughout the country.

We encourage Mr. Zulu to contact any of our Airtel shops for discussion and clarification on the off chance that there could be any technical challenges that he could have faced at the time. We make this request on the back of the fact that there has been no discussion or dispute with Mr. Zulu prior to his publishing his comments.

Kindly note that Airtel prides itself in being a strong corporate citizen and has committed to full compliance with regulatory guidelines. Therefore it would be contrary to company policy and the regulatory guidelines of the Republic of Zambia to block our Airtel customers from accessing any wide and varied products and services. In this competitive industry it would not bode well to engage in such discriminatory conduct.

For and on behalf of Airtel Network Zambia Management.

Chabuka J Kawesha | Head – Corporate Communications & Government Relations| Airtel Networks Zambia

ZWD’s Editor’s Note: We shall respond fully to the rubbish above but for now we can only ask Kawesha why it is only our website that cannot be accessed using the normal domain (www) like all websites?
