Sata plans to impose Luo, a fellow Bisa as Chitimukulu

Ailing dictator Michael Sata plans and is heavily fighting to impose a fellow Bisa as Chief Chitimukulu, the paramount Chief of the Bemba people.

Meanwhile, the Bemba Royal Establishment has rejected  Sata’s decision to degazette Henry Sosala Senior Chief Mwamba of the Bemba-speaking people of Kasama.

Last Thursday, President Sata withdrew recognition of Henry Kanyanta Sosala as senior chief Mwamba of the Bemba-speaking people of Kasama.
But radio Mano in Kasama reports that Bashilubemba (Bemba Chiefs)  had a meeting over the matter on Friday where they rejected Sata’s decision, calling it government interference in traditional affairs.

The Watchdog has been informed that the fight is not just about chief Mwamba but Bemba chiefs have realised that Sata wants to impose a fellow Bisa as Chitimukulu.

Sources in the Bemba Royal Establishment have told the Watchdog that Bembas are due to chose the new Chitimukulu next month since the passing of the last Chiti last year.

‘But Sata wants to impose Bob Luo, Nkandu Luo’s brother who is currently chief Chibesakunda of the Bisa people’, a source explained.

From the time Chitimukulu died, Sata has been busy meddling in the traditional activities. Before the traditional leaders announced the death of theire King as per custom, Sata was writing letters of condolences to the Royal Establishemnt.

My advice to my traditional cousins, the Kaonde-Luba (Bemba) is that they should maintain their Sosala as their Chitimukulu. We have Nevers Mumba, GBM, and many more Lubas who should be in position to support their Chiefdom financially. Don’t late a non-Luba to ascend the their throne. The Bisas, as historical Lundas, should stay out of Bemba issues. If Sata wants to withhold Chitimukulu’s allowances, do not bow to him (Sata), because he (Sata) will have no choice but re-recognise Sosala as the Chitimukulu of the Bemba people. Remember, ‘Resist the devil and he will flee from you.’

@Compos Mentis, it’s a simplistic attitude to be fixated on chiefs as the bedrock of our cultural heritage. As you rightly put it, they are just cheap figure-heads in the new age and unnecessary luxury and high cost to both the national treasury and to individuals who are scared to demystify and eliminate this useless institution. You don’t need a chief to perpetuate your language or positive culture in the middle of Cairo road or Times Square. Chill, Zambia, chill – chiefs are just dinosaurs – not even fit for the recycle bin!

I urge all the bemba chiefs to refuse this. You have the royal establishment which guides you as who should become Chitimukulu. Sata is always causing confusion. He did bring division between Paramount chief Mpezeni and Chief Madzimawe. This president should have no interference in the traditional affairs of the tribes where he does not come from.He has employed all his relatives, put them in strategic positions every where now he wants to dictate the SHILUBEMBAS.

If this story is true then its the worst thing to happen, because even Chibesakunda’s reign is questionable to be a Bisa Chief, there are Court issues surrounding the Chiefdom. The Bembas have a straight forward succession arrangement which can not be expected to be found in this comfusion. It must be someone fanning trouble who has some vested interest in the whole issue. But what is true is that a Bisa can not be a Chitimukulu that is imposible , though i dont come from that part of the country at least i went to school and learnt history and had an opportunity even to teach about the tribal migrations in Zambia. The politicians must desist fron causing confusion in the tarditional arrangements. The other thing is the since we now have a ministry solely for the Chiefs affairs we neen to have some anthroprogical records be put in place. If we dont have archives to run to we can have this be done again so that we have proper records in place.

It is you (other tribes) that only vote for your fellow tribesmen regardless of whether they can deliver or not. You only see your tribe as being capable of managing the country’s affairs while others cant.Northen, Luapula and other Bemba dominated regions have never given UPND an MP WHY?. As long as one is contesting on a party not led by a BEMBA you dont vote for such a one. Which one Zambia on Nation are you going to Cheat us. Only good at tagging other tribes as being tribal when you are also promoting BEMBA tribalism. If anthing BEMBAs are the most TRIBAL in this country called Zambia when it comes to Politics and Job ooportunities including higher institution enrollemnt. Already most Bembas after seeing that PF is headed for doom in 2016 due to partisan development have started talking about CHIPIMO. What qualities does CHIPIMO posses that he could be said to be better than MILUPI or HH? Its just BEMBA TRIBALISM.

Kilometer SAMPA even confirmed it in Parliament by stating that unless you have BEMBA genes you could never ever become President in Zambia and The Past Newspaper’s Fred MEMBE could not condemn it but was loudest at putting words into HH’s mouth that he meant or referred to BEMBAs when he was quoted by media houses during a press briefing that “IF YOU THINK YOUR TRIBE IS MORE SUPERIOR THAN OTHERS THEN YOU ARE STUPID” Hypocrite Goat MEMBE.

As far as SATA and PF are concernced Northwestern and Southern Province are not Zambia just because they dont have MPs there save for one in each province. So when they are going to Livinstone they believe the are driving in a a foreign country from Chilanga until they enter Livingstone Central Constituency.SHAME on them. 2016 is coming will teach them a lesson. Ama Facts Bane. Swallow these facts or vomit, its up to you.

Point of correction, the bembas have voted for presidents from other regions unlike what has been happening in southern province. For example, Mwanwasa won the elections in bemba land in 2001. In spite of him insulting the bemba speaking people that they were dirty and stinking, he still managed to win some seats in northern province in 2006.On this i am afraid to tell you that you are wrong. The 2008 presidential by elections also showed that R B won in some constituencies in Northern province unlike in Southern province where he did not win even in one constituency. As for tribalism in the work place ; i have had the opportunity to work for a quasi governmental organisation and the situation is exactly opposite of what you are saying. People got fired on suspicion because they were Bemba. However, whenever it was someone from southern province involved, the case would die a natural death despite the overwhelming evidence of misconduct.Tell us about the things that we do not know about.Stop thinking that every one who reads this blog is ignorant and can just accept everything that you post in spite of it being wrong.

You are all wrong. Even Bembas don’t speak their own language but IciShila. Bembas are Lubas and the closest language for them is Kaonde-Luba.

Now because all in Luapula and Northern Provinces speak what everyone perceives to be Bemba, all the wrongs perpetuated by all these tribal groupings cast blame on the Bembas. For instance Sata’s mother is Bisa and most of Sata’s appointees are Bisa, but most people think Sata is appointing Bembas only because Bisas speak Icishila (but perceived as Bemba).

Last time I made comments on this blog, regarding the upgrading, renaming and re-apportioning of some Provinces, I was insulted and called a teacher, all because I wanted to share the little knowledge I have with concerned bloggers. Yet this (lack of free expression) is what we are against in Zambia. Let me share this with fellow bloggers who care to listen. I am grandson to Chief Makasa of the Bemba, who is traditionally though not in reality supposed to be the first born son to Chitimukulu, this dates back to Kalulu -wa- Mbala in the days the Ngonis were rampaging through Bembaland. I also have the priviledge of having sat in Ilamfya meetings with my grandfather during the days of his ‘father’ Late Lakement Ng’andu.
Noone amongst the Ilamfya, has more powers regarding the father’s crown than that yielded by Chief Makasa. Noone also has more say in terms of succession than that yielded by Makasa. So personally I tend to discredit the source of this story. Assuming that it is true then Chief Makasa will veto it.

Sata’s lack of traditional norms in Zambia stems from his genetic origin. Sata is genetically a Tanzanian Mwakyusa whose father came to Northern Rhodesia as immigrant labourer and settled in Mpika. In Tanzania traditional Chiefs do not exist.

By virtue of his parents settling in Mpika up to as 23rd October 1964, both Sata and Guy Scott technically qualify as a Zambian citizens. But Sata has embedded himself among the Bisa people. In his confusion, he calls himself a Bemba.

Zambians know that Bembas and Bisas are two DIFFRENT ethnic groups. Bembaland is entrenched in parts of central and eastern Kasama crossing over Chambeshi at Mbesuma to include the western half of Chinsali. The people in Chishimba Falls area just west of Kasama and the entire Mporokoso District are not Bembas but the Lungus.

The Bisas had occupied the entire Mpika District and parts of Chinsali where Chief Chibesakunda is located long before the Bembas arrived in this part of Zambia. A group of Bisa led by Kambwili, also migrated to settle on the eastern banks of the Luangwa River (in areas of mu-Chibande, kwa Munkasanga, kwa Mansumba and kwa Yakobe and Chiwala) and these still recognise Chief Kopa as their traditional head..

The Bembas have established a very strong ordely system of recognising as to who should take up the throne of Paramount Chief Chitimukulu among the genetically ethnically recognised Bemba Royal Clans entrenched north of the Chambeshi River. On the other hand the Bisa Royal Clans belong to the Bena-Ng’ona; the Bisa Chiefs, including Chibesakunda, Chikwanda, Luchembe, Mukungule etc have accepted Senior Chief Kopa as the traditional Head of the Bisa south of Chambeshi River.

Vice President Guy Scott and Justice Lombe Chibesakunda must strongly advise Sata NEVER to meddle into the manner the Bemba Chiefs recognise their Paramount Chief Chitimulu.

The younger generation must appreciate this historical background.

If Sata is allowed to push his political WILL against the Bemba Royal Establishment, this President will sow seeds of anarchy and bring about untold serious conflicts between the Bembas and Bisas. In this regard, History is vital.
