Last night contest officials tried to drum up some Internet interest in tonight’s Miss Universe pageant with an online poll that put beauties from Latin America and Asia in as crowd favorites.
Miss Indonesia (Zivanna Letisha Siregar) topped the list, followed by Miss Brazil (Larissa Costa) and Miss Guatemala (Lourdes Figueroa).
Observers cast tens of thousands of anonymous votes. Contest officials closed a comment section of the online poll because more than 50,000 submissions were recorded in the first couple of days.
The pageant is taking place in the Bahamas. Tourist officials are hopeful the event will stimulate an economy hard hit by the global economic crisis.
