Angolans in Zambia to lose refugee status in 2011

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Angola, Bohdam Nahajlo, said Tuesday that Angola will no longer call, as from late 2011, its citizens residing in Zambia and other countries as refugees.

Bohdam Nahajlo said at a press conference on the World Refugee’s Day.

He stressed that there is no more reason those people continue being called refugees, as there are chances of many of them to return to the country.

He also said that the return of more people to the country is already being discussed at tripartite meetings gathering Zambia, Angola and UNHCR.
