Another Italian tourist swindled by Travel Centre

Another Italian Tourist to Zambia has said she has been swindled out of US$2,112.00 by a local tour operator, Travel Centre owned by a Rolf Simpson and Clifford Zulu.Last week, the Watchdog was told that Roberto Tartaglia, an Italian tourist was swindled out of over $6000 by the Travel Centre. The story was published on this website and is till here.

On Sunday, Stefania Milanello from Milan Italy wrote to the Watchdog saying she is in the same situation as Tartaglia.

“I’m in the similar situation of Roberto Tartaglia about Travel Centre and Clifford Zulu. I want to tell you my story with Travel Centre,” said Stefano.

“I contacted The Zambia Travel Centre, a local travel agency I found in www.zambiatourism.com

“I asked them to organize a trip in Zambia in August 2009 for my husband and me.

They sent to me a program with the name of Lodges, transfer, activities, internal flights etc. and the cost of the trip.

“They wanted the 30% of the total price and I sent money ($2,112.00).

Before sending the rest of money, I wrote an e-mail to the Lodges to know if they have my bookings.

“They said no,” explainded Stefano.

She said that she then contacted the Zambia Travel Centre for an explanation to which they told her that the lodges were paid.

The concerned lodges are Mukambi, Kafunta, McBrides and Kasaka.

According to stefano, The Lodges wrote to Rolf Simpson and Clifford Zulu (owners of t he Zambia Travel Centre) to have the money to confirm the booking,  but no payment was made.

“So I wrote to Rolf to cancel my trip with The Zambia Travel Centre because he could not confirm my trip,” said Stefano.

She was promised that she will the money and that was 12th June 2009 but up to now she hasn’t received the money.

She said she however manged to visit Zambia due to the professional assistance rendered to her by lodges and says:

“Zambia is a very nice place: nice people, a lot of incredible animals and nice landscape. I think that people like Clifford Zulu and the Travel Centre are a danger for the industry of tourism in Zambia.

“I also think that ZNTB have to protect good travel agency and control before to putting a travel agency in their website.”

She disclosed that before engaging the Travel Centre, she sent an email to ZNTB asking if Travel Centre was a good agency.

“ZNTB said YES, Travel Centre is a VERY GOOD AGENCY.”

She said she was therefore surprised that ZNTB recommended Travel Center but  failed to assist her when she ran in trouble with the travel agency.

It’s incredible. Then, I ask their help. ZNTB said a lot of good words, but they didn’t do anything in concrete terms.
