Special Assistant to the President for Policy Implementation and Monitoring, Ben Kapita has expressed disappointment at the high level of bureaucracy in approving loans under the Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission Fund.
Mr. Kapita said in Mazabuka yesterday that he is particularly disappointed with the red tape involved in accessing the funds among small scale business people in Mazabuka and Kalomo districts.
Mr. Kapita told Mazabuka District Commissioner, Tyson Hamaamba that the four approved loans for Mazabuka are not impressive considering the 112 applicants received from interested people.
He said the CEEC is a disappointment and should rise to the challenge if it is to gain the confidence of the people of Zambia.
Mr. Kapita complained that in Kalomo only one application has been approved for funding out of the 581.
He said unless something urgently is done to correct the red tape, people will continue being subjected to hardships.
And Mr Kapita told ZANIS in Mazabuka that the CEEC funds are meant to help small scale business houses and cooperatives such as women clubs and youth organisations.
He, however, said it is regrettable to learn that most applicants have been on the waiting list for a long time now.
