As food shortages and prices sour, Kalulushi DC impounds truck of meallie meal

chadizaKALULUSHI Town Clerk Eddie Nason Mumba this morning impounded a truck carrying mealie meal from H.M milling for selling the commodity in public.
The mealie meal shortage in various parts of the country prompted the milling company to go and sell the commodity in an open space in Kalulushi so that the consumers could buy the commodity without being subjected to exploitative prices, but the excited town clerk decided to impound commodity.
H.M milling company Director Milan said he was shocked at the behaviour of the Town clerk who could not see sense in what the milling company was doing.
“Our idea to go and sell the commodity from the truck in Kalulushi was to try and cushion the shortage of the commodity which has hit various parts of the country. We wanted the consumers not to be exploited by some shop owners, but the behaviour of the town clerk is shocking.
“I really don’t know how he is thinking. If this is the way things are going to be done then we shall stop taking mealie meal to Kalulushi,” Mr Milan said.
When contacted, the Town Clerk confirmed impounding the truck carrying mealie mealie for selling the commodity in public places, but said there were other reasons apart from selling the commodity in public places.
“There are other reasons other than selling the commodity in public. We also wanted to see the documents because some companies were evading tax and the mealie meal had no expiry date,” He said.
