Association of Building and Civil Engineering Contractors president Michael Nyirenda has called for the dismantling of the State House supervised Road Development Agency (RDA) due to its failure to inspect works being undertaken by Chinese contractors.
This follows the washing away and damage to most roads that were corruptly hurriedly constructed in the run-up to last year’s general elections.
The latest road to get damaged is the D145 which connects Luangwa to Feira District but Road Development Agency Director for Communication and Corporate Affairs Loyce Saili has expressed ignorance at the cause of the cracks on D145 road covering a stretch of 5 kilometres. The road was constructed by China Geo and was completed in August 2015.
Nyirenda says the shoddy works being done by some construction companies is as a result of high levels of corruption and luck of a coordinated monitoring system.
He stressed that he does not understand why the awarding of contracts, Supervision and appointment of consultants is all done from one agency.
Several roads constructed by the Chinese contractors in Matero and Kabwata constituency among many others have been washed out less than a year after being constructed.
