The Christian Coalition on the Copperbelt has advised people of Western Province to take Republican President Rupiah Banda’s statement that Zambia was one unitary state as a timely and benefiting counsel for national unity.
Copperbelt Coalition Provincial Chairperson, Peter Dimashi told ZANIS in Ndola yesterday that, all well meaning Zambians should take time to look at the Barotse Agreement of 1964 saying this did not only affect the people of Western Province but other provinces as well.
He said the agreement affected Southern, Central and Copperbelt Provinces in addition to the people of Western Province .
He said any issue contained in the agreement should not be championed by one group of people because all other tribes in the other affected provinces needed to be consulted.
He added that the Barotse Agreement should not be used to divide the country because Zambia was one unitary state which had been built on the motto, “One Zambia One Nation”, which he said promoted unity beyond ethnicity, tribe, race, gender and other divisive factors.
