Best Zambian Players in the Premier League

Football is the most popular sport in Zambia and although their national team is not among the best in Africa, they have produced some notable players. It is a pity that not all of them played for Zambian national team, they are still worth mentioning as one of the best Zambian players. A number of them played in the English Premier League as well and we are going to mention the most notable ones. Also, EPL is the most popular league to bet on, so make sure to always bet smart.

Although he was a Welsh international, Robert Earnshaw is certainly one of the most successful players with Zambian origins to have played in the top English flight. Earnshaw was a well-known striker who is still the only player to have scored a hat-trick in the Premier League, all three divisions of the English Football League, the FA Cup, the League Cup and for his national team. His first Premier League side was West Bromwich Albion, who signed Earnshaw in August 2004 for £3.5 million. Robert booked his first Premier League hat-trick against Charlton Athletic in March 2005 coming from the bench in the last 30 minutes of the match. After two seasons spent in WBA, he moved to Norwich City, and earned a transfer to another Premier League side Derby County. Besides these three teams, he had a chance to play for the Championship clubs such as Nottingham Forest, Cardiff City and Blackpool.

From the active players, we should mention Charly Musonda. Although he is a Belgian international, being involved in all categories starting from U15 to U21, his parents are Zambian. Charlie was a hot prospect from Anderlecht’s youth setup and Chelsea managed to beat the competition for his signature. Musonda was also linked to Manchester City, Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, but eventually, he joined the Blues. In his first spell, he arranged a loan move to Real Betis in order to fight for the first-team chance in Chelsea. Good form in La Liga didn’t pass unnoticed and although his loan was extended for another year, Antonio Conte decided to recall him. Musonda finally booked his debut for the Blues in August 2017 against Arsenal. However, he hasn’t stayed for a long before being loaned out to Celtic, and then to Vitesse, where he is playing currently. The best odds for Eredivisie can be found at Betfair.

Zambian striker Emmanuel Mayuka is also one of the notable players. At the international level, he has been awarded the African Cup of Nations 2012 Top Goalscorer award. His first European adventure started at Maccabi Tel Aviv where he spent two seasons. His move to the Swiss side Young Boys was a total success since Mayuka was one of the best players in the team. Southampton were the first to have noticed Mayuka’s talent and he agreed a £3 million deal in August 2012. Mayuka managed to book 16 appearances for the Saints before being loaned out to French side Sochaux. Currently, he plays for Zambian side Green Buffaloes after leaving Israeli side Hapoel Ra’anana in April earlier this year. All the latest Zambian news can be found here. +18/T&C apply.
