M-Net and Endemol SA yesterday announced that Big Brother Hotshots would not launch this Sunday due to a devastating fire at the Big Brother house.
Publicist Michelle Esau said the cause of the fire was unknown and investigations would commence as soon as it was safe to do so.
“At this stage, M-Net and Endemol are urgently looking for an alternative Big Brother house in which to film the production. However as this production has highly technical infrastructure, camera and edit requirements, an alternative is not immediately available,” she said.
Esau said every effort will be made to find a solution as quickly as possible to ensure that Africa’s biggest reality show continues.
Johannesburg emergency services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi said they were alerted about the fire at about 5pm yesterday. “No one was injured and the cause of the fire remains unknown,” he said.
The house is based at the Sasani Studios in Highlands North, Johannesburg.
