AN embarrassing defeat is awaiting PF cadre Clement Chileshe in this Saturday’s Zambia Boxing Federation (ZBF) elective Annual General Meeting (AGM) slated for Kabwe as major associations have joined hands to ensure that he is ousted from his position.
Midlands Amateur Boxing Association (MABA), Copperbelt Amateur Boxing Association (CABA), and Southern Province Armature Boxing Association (SPABA) all want Chileshe out of the federation for failing to run the affairs of boxing in the country effectively.
Chileshe is accused of, among, other things, pocketing all the money from associations without affiliating to international bodies thereby preventing Zambian boxers’ participation in international tournaments, save for those under stables with the financial muscle to sponsor them.
The AGM, which was supposed to be held last Saturday, was initially postponed indefinitely after Chileshe forged court documents purporting that the AGM could not go ahead as there was an active case in court to that effect.
The National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ) then postponed the AGM indefinitely but MABA quickly got a court order showing that the case was withdrawn from court, forcing the NSCZ to push the elections to this Saturday.
MABA is backing vice-president Kennedy Mubita to take over as president saying that was the only way there would be sanity at ZBF as Chileshe had failed to run boxing in the country as he was only interested in stealing money.
“Only a day is remaining in between before ZBF can be liberated. We have had enough of this nonsense from Chileshe and it is time for him to go. He has failed us and we cannot continue pretending things are ok,” one of the MABA officials said.
Meanwhile, MABA has hired a bus to ferry reporters from Lusaka to Kabwe to cover the event.
