The country is set to plunge into worse series of load shedding this month.
But ZESCO claims this is due to maintenance works at the Kariba North Bank power station.
ZESCO principal public relations officer Yammie Zimba said the company will be carrying out scheduled maintenance works for 21 days.
Zambia is already experiencing heavy load power cuts due to load shedding.
On the expected blackouts that will start this week, Zimba said the country will have a power deficit of 180 megawatts (MW) generation
“Zesco Limited will be carrying out maintenance works on generation number three at Kariba North Bank power station from August 13 to September 3, 2013.
The 180MW deficit may possibly result in increased load shedding particularly during peak hours from 60 [06:00] to 10:00 hours and 18:00 to 21:00 hours,” she said.
She did not explain what is causing the current electricity interruptions.
