BRE says it agrees with people demanding restoration of Barotseland agreement

The Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE) says it is in support of the people demanding the restoration of the Barotse agreement of 1964.

The BRE told the Roger Chongwe commission of inquiry that the people of Western province are bitter and angry with the abrogation of the agreement by the Zambian government.

The BRE made the submission at Limulunga, the Litunga’s palace Monday morning.

Speaking on behalf of the BRE and the Litunga, Indunas Mayuni and Namoonda also revealed that the Barotse National Council will soon meet to give a clear position on whether they want to secede or not.

Traditionally, the Litunga does not speak in public but is represented by his indunas or prime minister.

The BRE said that even if they will take the matter to the national council, most of its, members have already stated in the individual capacity that they want separation.
