The Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE) has voted to reject a proposal by the Litunga Lubosi Imwiko ii to support outgoing President Edgar Lungu in this year’s presidential elections.
All indunas from across Barotseland were summoned to Limulunga for a three day meeting but were shocked to find that part of the items on the agenda included supporting President Edgar Lungu in the August elections.
On Wednesday 10th February the matter was put to a vote and four out of six Kutas that were present rejected the proposal while one district(Shangombo) was absent from the meeting.
The Kutas that voted against the Litunga’s proposal are Naliele representing Kaoma, Libonda from Kalabo, Mwandi from Sesheke and Nalolo in Senanga where Vice President Inonge Wina comes from.
Lealui from Mongu and Namayula from Shangombo voted in favour of the Litunga’s proposal to support Lungu.
Some Indunas told the Litunga in the meeting that they were only interested in disengaging from Zambia and were not ready to discuss lies from President Lungu.
‘With due respect your Majesty, all we want is our country separated from Zambia and not lies,’ one Induna told the Litunga.
Indunas reminded the Litunga that President Lungu had promised to travel to Mongu while attending last years’ African Union (AU) Heads of State Summit in Ethiopia but he has remained silent on the matter.
The Litunga has increasingly remained isolated from his people as most Indunas and district Kutas are not in support of his back door dealings with the Zambian government regarding the Barotseland matter.
