Police in Livingstone have locked-up former Patriotic Front (PF) Southern province Political Secretary Brian Hapunda following investigations into allegations that he has been obtaining money using the party and President Michael Sata’s name.
Southern province Commissioner of Police confirmed Thursday evening, August 22, 2013 that Hapunda has been arrested and charged for obtaining money by false pretense amounting to K47, 000 kwacha rebased.
Hapunda has since been detained at Harry Mwanga Nkumbula International Airport in Livingstone and is expected to appear in court on Friday, August 23, 2013.
President Sata recently fired Hapunda after receiving information of him having been collecting money using his name and the party Secretary General Wynter Kabimba. Hapunda is alleged to have been collecting money from both government and private companies in the name of the PF and President.
Hapunda a staunch UPND cadre and a critic of Sata left in the run-upto 2011 elections made a u-turn joined PF after it won elections.
