British High Commission calls for credible election

The British High Commissioner to Zambia Grant Thornton has called for a credible election that meets internationally accepted standards.
And Thornton has stressed that violence and intimidation should never be accepted and noted that Zambians must be able to cast their votes freely.
He has urged observers and polling agents to do their work without interference and further called on all presidential candidates and their supporters to act responsibly and refrain from issuing inflammatory statements.
He said candidates should respect the verdict of the Zambian people whatever the outcome and accept defeat or take any dispute to the courts.
High Commissioner Thornton has noted that Zambia has been a peaceful country since independence in 1964.
