Kitwe residents have started paying higher fees on all routes as Bus operators have increased bus fares for local routes.
The increase in bus fares is due to the government’s increase of pump prices of fuel. The government increased fuel pump prices in May and July this year.
Commuters will now be paying K4 on all the routes within the district.
The increment has already been effected despite attempts by Road Transport and Safety Agency to interfere.
Kitwe District Bus Association (KDBA) committee member Lloyd Bwalya said the increase in bus fares has been necessitated by the upward adjustment in fuel prices.
On Tuesday last week, the Road Transport and Safety Agency warned that bus operators risked having their licences suspended or revoked if they increased bus fares without following the laid down procedure.
