Last month, Chibambo was granted a KR500 (K500, 000) bail with one working surety resident in Luanshya in the case in which he is charged with unlawful use of property.
Particulars of the charge are that Chibambo on March 6, 2013 in Luanshya did unlawfully use his unregistered Toyota Progrès to traffic in a psychotropic substance.
Chibambo pleaded not guilty to the charge and magistrate Banda had set April set today for commencement of trial.
But when the matter came up today, Magistrate Lungu who was standing in for magistrate Edward Banda, adjourned the matter following an application by Mr Chibambo’s lawyer Paul Mulenga to have the matter adjourned to a later date because magistrate Banda who was initially handling the matter had travelled to Lusaka.
‘’We are advised that magistrate Banda has travelled to Lusaka and that public prosecutors from the Drug Enforcement Commissioners are not before this honourable court , so we are in dilemma, therefore we seek your indulgence in this matter , to allow the public prosecutors mention the matter to another date’’ said Mr Mulenga.
Then magistrate Lungu adjourned the matter to May 10, 2013 for mention and extended Mr Chibambo’s bail to the same date (May 10,2013).
Last month the composer of the pro-corruption song ‘Donchi Kubeba’ singer was slapped with an 18 months suspended sentence for trafficking in psychotropic substances by magistrate Edward Banda.
