Priest urges Catholics to take up political positions

The Zambia Episcopal Conference (ZEC) has encouraged members of the Catholic Church to participate in this year’s election by contesting for various political positions.

ZEC spokesperson Father Paul Samasumo says politics are about offering a service to the majority by representing them and seeing to it that the many challenges that they may be facing are addressed.

Fr. Samasumo has also called on the political parties to sell their manifestos to the people of Zambia to enable the electorate make informed decision during this year’s elections.

He adds that holding public debates for all aspiring candidates for various positions including those aspiring for the presidency would be a good idea, adding that calls for such debates are genuine.

The clergyman was speaking to QFM news in Lusaka.
