CBU students riot over non payment of meal allowances

Police have arrested two students at the Copper-belt University (CBU) after students rioted and blocked Jambo drive road Tuesday morning over non payment of meal allowances.
The students boycotted classes on Monday demanding to be paid their meal allowances which have delayed by two weeks.
All the three public universities have been experiencing protests in the past two weeks which saw Mulungushi University in Kabwe closed indefinitely after students protested over lack of water while the University of Zambia also experienced protests thanks to Chishimba Kambwili’s careless statements on bursaries and the fight over ownership of the Commonwealth Youth Centre.
Meanwhile plea for the five University of Zambia (UNZA) students who were arrested and charged with idle and disorderly conduct failed to take place in the Lusaka Magistrate Court Tuesday morning after Magistrate Humphrey Chitalu recused himself on grounds that one of the accused was a relative.
