Residents of Chibolya compound in Lusaka Tuesday fought running battles with Drug Enforcement Commission Officers (DEC) during a drug search operation.
The DEC however managed to seize over 200 sachets of cocaine and to arrest four people including a 15-year old boy.
The DEC also seized ‘millions of kwacha believed to be proceeds of the illegal trade, according to DEC spokesperaon John Nyawali.
Nyawali told the Watchdog in press statement that the cocaine was found in one of the houses in the compound found a few metres from City market.
But the DEC has expressed disappointment with the people of Chibolya Compound for fighting running battles with law enforcement officers.
“Residents of Chibolya fought and injured some officers when they conducted the operation in the area,” said Nyawali adding that “officers have repeatedly come under life threatening attacks whenever they conducted operations in Chibolya.”
Nyawali warned that that the DEC will not tolerate such ‘barbaric behavior and that next time they try to shield drug traffickers, the Commission will not hesitate to use maximum force to safe guard the lives of officers.’
He said DEC will do everything possible to ensure that Chibolya compound is not used as a safe haven for drug trafficking and drug abuse activities.
According to Nyawali, the four areested ‘fighters’ are currently detained in police custody and will appear in court soon.
