Chief Chikanta of the Tonga people in Kalomo district has expressed concern at the increasing levels of political violence in the country.
Speaking when he paid a courtesy call on UPND vice president for Administration Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba at his residence in Lusaka this morning (Friday), Chief Chikanta observed that the country has never experienced such levels of violence as was being experienced currently.
He said politicians did not value the importance of a united country because they were only interested in what they wanted at the expense of the Zambian people.
The Chief has since appealed to politicians to desist from being selfish and think of the Zambian people before anything else.
He said leaders should not think of getting whatever they wanted regardless of the wishes of the Zambian people.
The Chief urged political party leaders to ensure that they educate their party supporters on how they should conduct themselves without any form of violence.
“Zambia has always been peaceful and as traditional leaders we are concerned because every day we keep hearing of people always fighting and it is worrying because it may result in a civil war and we will lose our place as one of the most peaceful countries in Africa”, he cautioned.
