Chief Chitina cut off as bridge is washed away

Access to Chief Chitina in Mkushi district has been cut off as the bridge connecting the palace has been washed away barely two years after it was built by some bogus PF contractors. The incident happens just three days after another road, the Batoka – Mamba in Southern province was washed away.
Villagers of the area and the Chief have since appealed to government to come to their aid because there is no alternative route connecting the area. Mkushi district council chairperson Evans Bwalya who confirmed the incident said that the disaster has been communicated to the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit.
Meanwhile former Mkushi South MP Sydney Chisanga has expressed sadness at the washing away of the bridge.
Chisanga has since appealed to government to ensure that infrastructure like roads and bridges are worked on by qualified and experienced contractors to curb shoddy works.
He lamented that it was costly to the government to continue working on the same structures after they are destroyed.
