Chief says Masebo’s cancellation of linces has increaded poaching

Chief Kakumbi of Mambwe district in eastern province has told the Tribunal investigating Tourism Minister Sylvia Masebo that the cancellation of the safari hunting license issued by ZAWA by the Minister has resulted in rampant poaching in Mfuwe.

Chief Kakumbi whose real names are John Kunda Kapepa aged 63 years-old testified that local communities are now finding it difficult to benefit from the hunting of animals.
The traditional leader submitted to the tribunal that the Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) management is lacking transparency in their operations.
Chief Kakumbi has further told the tribunal that following the cancellation of the tender for the issuance of hunting concessions, he together with other Chiefs have not been getting the revenues consistently as the case was in the past.
He testified that the money is now being paid centrally from ZAWA offices in Chilanga, and complained that ZAWA officers are lazy and difficult people because they like to confine themselves to office work.
