Chief Shakumbila rejects amputation of Sibuyunji from Central province

Senior Chief Shakumbila of the Sala people of Mumbwa District in Central province has opposed the re-alignment of Sibuyunji district to Lusaka province.

Senior Chief Shakumbila says although the upgrading of the area is welcome, its realignment from Central province is not a good move.

The traditional leaders’ comment comes in the wake of the re-alignment of the district to Lusaka province.

Senior Chief Shakumbila explained that already there is a land dispute between him and Chieftainess Nkomeshya Mukamambo II of the Soli people in Chongwe over the boundaries.

Senior Chief Shakumbila said government is right to decentralize governance to the grassroots but stressed this should be handled carefully.

He called on government to address the land dispute before it gets out of hand.

Chieftainess Nkomenshya is working through the PF regime to extend her chiefdom to parts of Central and Southern province and be declared a paramount Chief.

Senior Chief Shakumbila was speaking when Lusaka Province Minister Gerry Chanda and his Central province counterpart Phillip Kosamu paid a courtesy call on him at his palace.

Others who accompanied the two ministers were Mumbwa District Commissioner Sunday Shamabase, Central Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Ronald Sinyangwe and other senior government officials.
