Chieftainess Nkomesha says Lungu won’t be allowed to remove ‘tribe’ details on NRCs

Chieftainess Nkomesha

Chieftainess Nkomesha of the Soli people in Lusaka has condemned the proposal by PF President Edgar Lungu to remove details linked to tribe on National Registration Cards (NRC).
While Visiting Rwanda recently, Lungu hallucinated that he will ensure that tribe is removed from NRCs in order to curtail tribalism in Zambia.
If the idea is to be implemented, it will mean removing details of one’s village, district and chief and will open the NRCs to abuse by foreigners.
Chieftainess Nkomesha said Lungu’s proposal must not be entertained and wondered if the idea was to allow everyone (including foreigners) to get access to NRCs and vote in the 2021 general elections.
‘We are not going to allow that,’ Chieftainess Nkomesha emphasised.
Several other Chiefs including Chief Ngabwe of Central Province have opposed Lungu’s idea describing it as a recipe for confusion as it will allow foreigners access NRCs.
While Lungu is pretending to fight tribalism, his government is busy pushing out people who come from certain tribes and regions from the civil service through retirements in national interest.
