Outgoing Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Zhou Yuxiao has said that the relationship between China and Zambia is not based on any political party’s ideology but on the sovereignty of the country and that his government will always work with any party that forms the Zambian government.
Speaking during the ‘Sunday interview’ programme on the state controlled ZNBC TV1, Ambassador Yuxiao said the PF and president Sata while in opposition spoke so badly about China but that the move did not deter China from strengthening the relationship with Zambia after PF won the 2011 elections.
During the run up to the 2011 elections, ailing dictator Michael Sata was a very strong critic of China. He went on an international trip to discredit Chinese investments in Zambia and other parts of the world and threatened to deport them once PF formed government. Sata even lied that a Chinese porter had stolen his passport while at a hotel abroad but a camera recording later revealed that he actually collected the passport.
The PF further lied to the electorate that the Chinese government had printed millions of fake dollars to be used in bribing voters during the 2011 tripartite elections but Ambassador Yuxiao challenged any Zambian to prove if there was any dollar printed. He said people must talk based on the truth and not on lies.
