Chinese firm fires workers for demanding payment as Sata eats with Chinese investors

Eight workers at a firm which is constructing new hostels at the Mulungushi University have been fired for demanding improved conditions of service.

The 8 were part of a group of employees who were on strike demanding payment of 10 month salary arrears accrued from January 2011.

One of the fired workers, Moses Kamuchanga has told MUVI TV news that they have been pushing for salary payments for a long time despite the intervention of the Ministry of labour.

But company Director, Jian Zhang has explained that his firm is working on re-negotiating its agreement with theMinistry of Education, the owners of the project.

Meanwhile, President Michael Sata is today expected to host a luncheon at State House in honour of the Chinese business people operating in Zambia.

Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Zhou Yuxio is expected to lead a team of 150 Chinese business executives based in Zambia to State House.
