Chinese to open more mines in Northwesten province

North Western Province Permanent Secretary Eustern Mambwe says two mines will open in the province next year.

He also disclosed that exploration woks for oil and gas will resume next year.

Dr. Mambwe said the mines will be opened in Mwinilunga and Kalumbila, West of Kasanshi as subsidiaries of Kasanshi of mine.

He said this when Gender In Development Minister Sara Sayifwanda called on him at his office in Solwezi.

Dr. Mambwe said the exploration works in Kabompo and Zambezi districts halted but will start next year.

And Mwinilunga District Commissioner Webster Samakesa confirmed that a Chinese company was chosen to open a mine in the area.

He said the Company has already started feasibility studies on the possible commencement of operations.

Mr. Samakesa said people in the area were excited about the development but called on the mining company to seriously consider implementing some projects that will be of benefit to both miners and none-miners.

He said people in the will not allow investors who are not ready to carryout social responsibility programmes as has been the case in some areas.

He further said the district wants to benefit from the opening of the mine and that most of the labour force should be drown from the district.
