Chipata MP rejects Sata’s offer to quit and be appointed ambassador

President Michael Sata on Monday met with Chipata Central MP Mtolo Phiri to plead with him to resign as MMD MP, the Watchdog has been informed.

State House sources have disclosed that Sata promised to appoint Phiri as new ambassador to Canada on condition that he paves way for PF cadre Lameck Mangani.

Mtolo Phiri humbly but firmly declined during the meeting held at State House.

Mtolo Phiri defeated Mangani Phiri of the PF.

Sources close to Mtolo Phiri two weeks ago disclosed that he was receiving death threats. His family members have continued receiving death threats if they do not convince the MP to resign and pave way for Mangani.

Lameck Mangani has petitioned the election of Mtolo Phiri but experts familiar with the elections matters say the grounds are too weeks to overturn the election.

Michael Sata is desperate to have Mangani and former Chongwe MP Slyvia Masebo as MPs and possible ministers in his cabinet.

Elected MMD MP for Chongwe Japen Mwakalombe was threatened and forced to resign before he even took oath of office as MP.
