Chipimo backs calls for meeting to discuss ECZ corruption

National Restoration Party (NAREP) President Elias Chipimo has backed calls by Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) President Rueben Lifuka for Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to call for a stakeholders meeting to discuss the corruption allegations raised by Patriotic Front (PF) Chairperson for Local Government and Housing Given Lubinda against Universal Printing Group (UPG), a South African company printing Zambia’s ballot papers.

Chipimo said the meeting should be held prior to elections and hopes that a positive way forward will be discussed.

He said the issue must be addressed immediately because if left for later citizens may lose confidence in the country’s electoral system.

Chipimo challenged the ECZ to realise that it is their duty to ensure free and fair elections and if there is lack of transparency the Commission should be ready to take the blame.
