Choma runs out of fuel, again

A critical fuel shortage has again hit Choma town with almost all the four filing stations running out of the commodity.
A check by ZANIS this morning found that all the filling stations in town had run out of both petrol and diesel causing panic among
motorists.
At Choma Garage service station, a fuel attendant, Cornwell Machila, said the station run out of fuel two days ago.
He however revealed that undisclosed quantities of both diesel and petrol are expected later today.
Management at Total filling Station which has also completely run out of the commodity said they were expecting fuel supplies later today in
the evening.
And taxi drivers in Choma have appealed to government to quickly address the fuel shortage in the district.
They complained that because most of them have been forced to park their vehicles, they feared that their families will go hungry if the
situation persists as taxi business is their only source of income.
They complained that the commodity is now selling at exorbitant prices at the black market thereby rendering taxi business
unprofitable.
Most taxi  drivers complained that they are unable to meet their daily cashing targets.
The illegal fuel dealers have taken advantage of the shortage by hiking the price of petrol with a 5 litres containing fetching K70,
000 from the usual K40, 000.
