United Liberal Party (ULP) Sakwiba Sikota has condemned the move by president Michael Sata to increase his salary by 100 per cent.
And Sikota has advised civil servants to reopen negotiations with government and this time demand 100 per cent since that is what every body is getting.
Sikota said the move by president Michael Sata to increase his salary and those of his cabinet is wrong and an insult to civil servants who have been denied meaningful salary increaments.
Last week, the Zambian Watchdog exclusively unearthed and published the Statutory Instruments signed by Finance minister Alexander Chikwanda to increase salaries for president Sata by 100 per cent and his ministers and other officials by different per centanges.
The revelation of the secret documents signed on April 1, has been condemned roundly but government has not said anyhting so far.
But Sakwiba Sikota, who is also a prominent lawyer says now that government has money to increase salaries for government officials, civil servants should also get theirs.
He said everyone in the country including maids and shop keepers have been given 100 per cent salary increments so the civil servants should also demand the same per cent.
