Civilian arrested with soldiers over stolen guns dies in custody

A 27-year old civilian detained by police in Chongwe in connection with guns stolen from Zambia National Service (ZNS) armoury has died in police custody.
The police wing notoriously known as C5 on Tuesday March 11, 2014 apprehended Lucky Sinfukwe. On Saturday, his family was notified that he died on his way to the hospital. He was not sick when he was arrested.
Police sources at Chongwe police say Sinfukwe was arrested together with three ZNS soldiers who are still in custody.
When he was arrested, Sinfukwe was found with three guns stolen from ZNS armoury. Police sources say Sinfukwe was beaten to death but it is not clear if it is the police who murdered him or the ZNS officers who are trying to erase evidence.
His body is lying at Chongwe District hospital but hospital sources say his family has not been permitted to see the remains.
