Oasis Forum said it is optimistic that Zambia will have a new constitution before the forthcoming elections if there is political will from Government.
Speaking to joy fm on behalf of Oasis Forum, Non-Governmental Organization Coordinating Committee (NGOCC) Chairperson Beatrice Grillo said the Forum has re-launched the ‘Green Ribbon’ campaign to ensure the nation has people driven constitution before the elections.
She appealed to Parliament to validate the Mungomba draft constitution as it reflects the aspirations of the Zambians.
Grillo further said NGOCC has reiterated its call for political parties to submit the names of female candidates participating in this year’s tripartite elections.
She condemned men who are criticizing women on the basis that they would fail to deliver, adding that women should be accorded chance to serve the people as some male leaders have also let the country down.
Meanwhile, Citizens Forum Executive Director Simon Kabanda has advised Civil Society Organizations aggrieved by the constitution making process to engage the Law Association of Zambia to ensure their aspirations are addressed.
Kabanda said the process should be done before the elections as the Mungomba draft constitution is widely accepted and should be drafted into a people’s bill so that we have a referendum that would lead to a new Constitution prior to the tripartite elections. .
