Copperbelt MMD youths endorse Nevers Mumba for president

The entire Copperbelt Province MMD youth wing has endorsed the candidature of former Zambian ambassador to Canada Dr. Nevers Mumba as party president at the forth coming extra ordinary convention.

Provincial MMD youth Chairperson Chicco Chibale announced the youths’ resolve to rally behind Dr. Mumba at a press briefing in Kitwe Tuesday afternoon.

Mr. Chibale says after a thorough scrutiny of four of the five aspiring presidential candidates the youths on Province have realized that Dr. Mumba has all the qualities needed to steer the party forward.

He says the opposition MMD needs a committed and fearless leader who is going to guide the party in providing effective checks and balances to ruling Patriotic Front.

The MMD extra-ordinary convention is slated for April, 2012.

Others vying for party presidency are Lunte MP Felix Mutati, Kasempa MP Kabinga Pande, Chisamba MP Muteteka and Liuwa MP Situmbeko Musokotwane.

And the youths have recommended  the expulsion of suspended MMD national youth chairperson and presidential aspirant Moses Muteteka for alleged incessant attacks on the top leadership in the party.

Mr. Chibale says Mr. Muteteka has been scandalizing former president Rupiah Banda in the press despite his failure to perform as national youth chairperson.

He bragged that the MMD is popular in Chisamba Constituency and would face Mr. Muteteka head on with the opposition UPND should he decide to re-contest his seat on the Patriotic Front ticket.

At the same press briefing Mr. Chibale urged the MMD to remain united as they prepare for the 2016 general elections.

Mr. Chibale says the party is confident the ruling Patriotic Front will not win a second term because it allegedly has no direction.

He says the lack of direction is evidenced by the unpopular decisions it has continued to make.
