In as much as we should not tolerate corruption in the Police service or anywhere for that matter, we must appreciate the fact that those corrupt Police officers are the direct fruits of a corrupt government administration and are merely following the official government policy of ‘ubomba mwibala alya mwibala’.
Shame should not befall the cops busted by Lusambo only but also on the Police IG and the appointing authorities who have natured a culture of corruption.
If there was less corruption in government, surely the conditions of service for police officers would have been bettered and opportunities for unprofessional conduct on duty reduced. Lets face it, we are a nation that thrives on corruption at all levels so before we assume that people are laughing at the nudity of our children, lets check ourselves if we are dressed up. In fact the ‘good citizen’ played by Bowman should be directed to the highest offices in the land. That is where the godfathers of corruption are found. That is where government tenders are awarded, that is where the Chinese are reaping the benefits of massive corruption and taking all our land. That is where fire tender deals are found bwana Lusambo. Go to the Judges offices and find out if they have been just. Go to those pentecostal pastors and check if they have not received brown envelopes. Go to NGO’s and see if they are not producing doctored financial reports to suit their donors.
Today little shame is on those police officers while the bigger shame is on all of us for being part of a society that will give even a corrupt head of state a decent tax payer funded mausoleum at Embassy Park and still have his accomplices in government. It is us who have left the question of fire tenders to 4 people only and prefer to be unconcerned. It is us who have let MP’s keep our money even after the Courts ruled that it must be paid back. It is us who let the Mukula stories die silently while the crimes are still being committed.
Need I say more…
